McCabe to solo at Feb. 26 UW Symphony concert

On Thursday, Feb. 26, Maestro Peter Eros conducts the University Symphony in a performance of Mussorgsky’s Persian Dances and Debussy’s symphonic poem La Mer. The Symphony also performs Grieg’s colorful and evocative Concerto in A minor with special guest soloist Robin McCabe, director of the UW School of Music.

“Collaborating in performance with our students at the School of Music has special significance for me as an artist,” said McCabe, who earned her undergraduate degree at the school. “Playing under Peter Eros’ baton is always an exhilarating experience, and I look forward to making some musical sparks fly.”

McCabe’s appearance with the UW Symphony is one of two performance appearances she will make during the School of Music’s 2008-09 concert season. She returns to the Meany Hall mainstage on April 30, where she will be joined by her sister, Rachelle McCabe, director of piano studies at Oregon State University; and School of Music faculty artist Craig Sheppard for a joint recital titled “Triple Play.”

The Feb. 26 performance will be at 7:30 p.m. in Meany Theater. Tickets are $10 and are available from the UW Arts Ticket Office, 206-5434880 or online at www.meany.org.
