JACK Quartet to perform Jan. 16 at School of Music

The JACK Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 as part of the School of Music’s Visiting Artists Series. Praised by the Chicago Sun-Times for its “powerhouse playing,” the quartet pushes the boundaries of today’s most demanding string quartet repertoire. In this special performance, the quartet presents Ergma and Tetras, by Xenakis; String Quartet, by Durand; Five Bagatelles, by Webern; and of resonance, by Broberg.

Comprising violinists Christopher Otto and Ari Streisfeld, violist John Pickford Richards, and cellist Kevin McFarland, the quartet has performed throughout Europe and North America. The members met while attending the Eastman School of Music, where, in addition to learning standard and contemporary repertoire, they pursued period, non-western, and popular performance styles. The commissioning and performance of new works for string quartet is integral to the quartet’s mission

The concert will be in Brechemin Auditorium. Tickets are $10, cash or check, at the door.
