Burke’s Artifact Identification Day slated Jan. 10

Do you have an object you can’t quite place? If it’s from somewhere along the Pacific Rim or North America, one of the Burke’s curators can help you figure it out. Dozens of experts will be available to identify cultural objects from the Northwest Coast, Pacific Islands, and Asia, in addition to specimens from throughout the natural world (including bones, fossils or animal teeth). A limit of two items per visitor is requested because of the event’s popularity. No appraisals are given.

Entrance to Artifact Identification Day is included with museum admission. Burke Museum members receive free admission and are “fast tracked” through the line.

While at the museum, explore the geological history of Washington State, complete with dinosaur bones and volcanic eruptions, in The Life and Times of Washington State. Or immerse yourself in the lives of 17 different native cultures from around the Pacific in the long-term exhibit Pacific Voices. Both exhibits are included with museum admission.

The Burke Museum is free for UW faculty, staff and students. General admission is $9.50, $7.50 for seniors and $6 for other students and youth. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and until 8 p.m. on first Thursdays
