Click your way to savings at UW Press Web site

Thanks to a newly redesigned Web site, it just got a lot easier to save big on books from University of Washington Press. UW Press is offering 20 percent off any online order and up to 40 percent off a selection of 13 titles through Dec. 31. Just enter the code WWEB8 during your online checkout to get the discount.

Faculty and staff can save 20 percent on both old and new titles, like the recently-released The Weather of the Pacific Northwest by Cliff Mass, UW professor of atmospheric sciences. The 13 titles available for up to 40 percent off include Alfredo Arreguin: Patterns of Dreams and Nature by the UW’s Lauro Flores, chair and professor of American Ethnic Studies, and Heroes, Hacks, and Fools: Memoirs from the Political Inside by Ted Van Dyk.

“They’re some of our interesting titles from the last couple of years,” said UW Press publicist Rachael Levay of the books on special sale.

UW Press has published approximately 3,800 books, of which about 1,400 are currently in print, according to its Web site. Recognized as the leading publisher of scholarly books and distinguished works of regional nonfiction in the Pacific Northwest, the Press publishes about 60 new titles each year.

This is the Press’s first Web sale, said Kathleen Pike Jones, Web Site Manager for UW Press. During sales in past years, faculty and staff could only place orders at the Press office or by mail, and Jones hopes the easy-to-use Web site will encourage more book-lovers to order online and save.

Another new feature of the Web site is a “Google Preview” tool that allows visitors to browse the pages of nearly 500 books before buying. “We’re one of the first university presses to incorporate that into their Web site,” Jones said.

The UW Press site also offers detailed descriptions and reviews of each book, a search engine, online versions of the Press’s catalogs and a calendar of upcoming events featuring UW Press authors.
