High school students attend UW dental camp

Twenty-one students from the Yakima Valley area sampled the oral health profession on Saturday at the School of Dentistry’s annual Dental Camp. During a half-day session in the school’s Simulation Laboratory, students made plaster casts and wax-ups under the direction of Dr. Douglass Jackson, UW associate professor of dentistry, and 13 other volunteer instructors. The volunteers included School of Dentistry students, dental hygiene students from Seattle Central Community College, and dental assisting students from Seattle Vocational Institute. The camp, jointly sponsored by the School of Dentistry, Washington Dental Service Foundation and Yakima Valley ConneX, seeks to increase minority representation in the oral health field and also spark wider student interest in math and science.
