Works by art professor next up in Lawrence Gallery

Recent Work by Zhi Lin: Unheard, Forgotten and Disregarded Stories will be presented at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery Oct. 29-Nov. 15. The exhibition poignantly touches on the experience of 19th century Chinese laborers in the United States as they worked to build the transcontinental railways.

Lin, an associate professor in the School of Art, has a commitment to the history of these people that led him to journey across the American West to create this powerful suite of work on site. Utilizing a variety of media, Lin gives “a voice to the unheard, presence to the forgotten and dignity to the disregarded.”

There will be an opening reception for the exhibit from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the gallery, in 132 Art. Regular gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. For more information call 206-685-1805.
