UW Neighborhood Clinics offer convenient, world-class health care

October 27 through November 30 marks the UW’s annual open enrollment period for medical and dental insurance as well as other benefits. If you’re thinking about changing your health care coverage to include one of the top 10 health systems in the country, two world-class hospitals (UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center), and a convenient primary care network (UW Physicians Network) consider signing up for Uniform insurance and selecting one of UW Medicine’s Neighborhood Clinics to be your “medical home.” All physicians and staff are UW employees, and the physicians are “top docs” in Seattle.

UW Medicine’s Neighborhood Clinics offer seven convenient locations throughout King County with extended evening and weekend hours. The clinics are located in Belltown, Factoria, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent/Des Moines, Shoreline and Woodinville. All physicians are on the faculty of the UW School of Medicine.

“Our seven neighborhood clinics offer excellent primary medical care,” said Meg Kerrigan, executive director of UW Medicine’s Neighborhoon Clinics. The Neighborhood Clinics offer the full range of primary care services, including family practice, internal medicine, geriatrics and pediatrics, delivered by an integrated team of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and medical assistants. The clinics also provide a range of ancillary services, including on-site lab and X-ray.

“Because of our UW Medicine system of care, our patients also have access to specialty care provided at Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center,” said Kerrigan. “Together, UW Medicine provides a wide array of services from primary care, obstetrics and care for neonates to very specialized services such as bone-marrow transplants, neurosurgery, heart care and more.”

Patients can opt to sign up for the Neighborhood Clinics’ eCare program that allows them to view their medical records on line, request prescriptions refills and schedule their own appointments. Over sixteen thousand patients have signed up for eCare and according to Kerrigan; this has created great patient satisfaction.

UW Neighborhood Clinics actively participate in the Puget Sound Health Alliance (PSHA) and were among the first medical groups to report data on diabetes, heart disease, cancer screening, and pediatric care. PSHA is a regional initiative formed in 2005 to address health care cost and quality issues,

Recently, 28 Neighborhood Clinic physicians achieved recognition in diabetes care from the National Commission on Quality Assurance (NCQA). NCQA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. The NCQA approval is a widely-recognized symbol of quality, and physicians who obtain this level of recognition must pass a rigorous, comprehensive review and must annually report on their performance.

“We are proud of the work that our physicians have done to improve the quality of care for diabetics,” said Kerrigan.
