UCAR arrives at UW Bothell

UW Bothell is now officially the fifth location for the very successful UCAR car-share program.

Fleet Services, a Transportation Services Program, in partnership with Bothell’s Motor Pool operations is offering members of the UW Bothell community a choice of three Prius Hybrid vehicles — conveniently located on the 4th level of the South Parking Garage. UCAR is available to those engaging in education, research and University business that requires short term transportation.

As in Seattle, members of the UCAR program pick up a car, drive it for University purposes only, then return it to the same spot and drop off the key. The UCAR system keeps automatic track of vehicle usage and charges departmental budgets at the end of each month.

Membership in U-CAR is free with a valid NetID. Members register for a car online, write down a code, go to where the car is parked, type in the code and get the key to the car.

“Car-sharing is here to help staff drive green in a time of high fuel costs and costly vehicle maintenance,” says Anne Eskridge, assistant director for Transportation Services. “UCAR also addresses Fleet Service’s desire to reduce the University’s vehicle fleet, which definitely helps a department’s bottom line.”

The UW community can now reserve a vehicle at UW Bothell, as well as the other locations on the Seattle campus, which include the Central Plaza Garage, UW Tower, the South Campus Center and the E-2 parking lot. There are no plans at this time to add UCARs at UW Tacoma.

“Signing up with UCAR is simple,” says Joles Tahara, fleet services manager. “We’ve made the process of reserving your vehicle and picking up your key as convenient as possible.” Prices are charged at an economical hourly rate.
