MOMIX returns to Meany Hall with concert of favorites

Dancer-illusionists MOMIX, the sell-out hit of the UW World Series 2006-07, returns to Meany Hall with Best of MOMIX, a collection of some of the company’s favorite works. Performances are Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 16-18.

Known internationally for presenting work of exceptional inventiveness and physical beauty, MOMIX has been performing for more than 25 years. The company, directed by Moses Pendleton, has been celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor and the human body. MOMIX, which is based in Connecticut, has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, the Far East, Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to its international stage performances, the company has frequently worked on special projects, as well as in film and television. In 1992, Pendleton created Bat Habits, developed with the support of the Scottsdale Cultural Council/Scottsdale Center for the Arts, Scottsdale, Ariz., and the University of Washington to celebrate the opening of the San Francisco Giants’ new spring training park in Scottsdale, Arizona. This work was the forerunner of Baseball, which Pendleton created in 1994. The company participated in the Homage a Picasso in Paris and was selected to represent the United States at the European Cultural Center at Delphi.

MOMIX performances are at 8 p.m. each night. Tickets are $42 ($39 for subscribers and $20 for students). Tickets may be purchased by phone at 206-543-4880, online at www.uwworldseries.org or in person at the UW Arts Ticket Office.

Ticket-holders are invited to come at 7:10 p.m. to learn more about the performance at a free, informal talk in the main auditorium. The talk lasts about 30 minutes. You can watch a short video of MOMIX in action below.
