PACCAR Hall construction prompts parking revisions

Friday, Sept. 26, the Foster School of Business will break ground on its new building along Memorial Way, PACCAR Hall. This construction has brought changes to the arrangements of nearby parking lots, according to UW Commuter Services.

Parking lots N3, near Denny Hall, and N4, near Balmer Hall, in the North Central campus area — have been permanently closed. Staff and faculty member signed up for these lots have already been notified and moved to other campus lots.

Commuter Services staff say this should not have a negative impact on parking for visitors in lots N1, which is at the Burke Museum, and N5, north of Stevens Way near Memorial Way. They say they planned the relocation to maintain visitor parking capacity in these lots and will perform regular lot counts to assess the true impact of the closures and reassignments.

To help accommodate individual parking needs, Commuter Services has increased the number of load zones in the construction area to make it easier for commuters to drop off passengers or hard-to-carry items.

Most business School employees are being reassigned to the Central Plaza Garage and the N20 and N21 lots near Padelford Hall. Since members of the Business School will benefit most from the new facility, priority for spaces in N1 and N5 is being given to permit holders from other departments.

“We are committed to making this transition go as smoothly as possible for everyone concerned,” said Chris McDivit, Commuter Services sales and administration manager.
