Grabbing lunch in summer: More options than you think

As summer settles over the UW’s Seattle campus, employees all ask the same question sooner or later: “Hey, what’s open for lunch on campus these days?”

It’s a good question, because with most students gone and demand down, many campus eateries shut down for a while, at least in early summer. But if you watch the clock and the calendar, you’ll see several options available.

Most campus restaurants took a short break after spring quarter, reopened for the summer about June 23 and will remain available for staff until September. All campus offices closed on July 4 and will close again on Labor Day, which this year is Sept. 1. A few of the restaurants listed also offer breakfast or dinner service. Several cafes remain open

Here’s a list of what’s open, and when. The information comes from Housing and Food Services, and you can see all the restaurant, café and espresso stand hours and days open online at: http://www.hfs.washington.edu/dining/default.aspx?id=989.

In the Husky Den:

  • Etc., the small convenience store with espresso bar, is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. all year, and Pagliacci, the pizza restaurant, is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. all year.
