UW Botanic Gardens offers session on greening your home

UW Botanic Gardens will present a program on greening your home at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 16. Participants can learn real-world strategies for greening up their building, remodeling, or buying projects.

The speaker is Kathleen O’Brien, one of the nation’s leading experts in sustainable design. Her book, The Northwest Green Home Primer, is the essential green home manual for both novices and professionals. It is a comprehensive resource focusing on building green in Cascadia.

The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a green building tour of Merrill Hall, at the Center for Urban Horticulture. Merrill Hall is the first green-certified building on the UW Seattle campus, awarded the LEED silver designation (LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). O’Brien’s presentation starts at 7:30 p.m. Copies of The Northwest Green Home Primer will be available for purchase and signing.

Tickets are $12 per person, and advance registration is recommended to guarantee a seat. To register, call 206-685-8033.
