Prize winner goin’ to the Dawgs

Sam Buxton, a UW window washer, left, holds the prize he won at the April 23 UW Community Celebration — a pair of tickets to watch the Huskies play the Oregon State University Beavers at Husky Stadium on Oct. 18. With him is his colleague, Troy Jones. In front are recognition volunteers Andrea Ray, left, and Katy Bingham.

Ana Marie Silva of the Division of Classroom Services, nurse Ivy Ibarra and Dana Marie Hendrickson in the Residency Office each won ipods. Other winners were Jon Marmor of the Alumni Association, Joe Lott of the College of Education, Dana Shemorry of UW Libraries and Molly Snow of Medical Administration (two tickets each to a School of Drama production), Patricia Chinn-Sloan of the Botanic Gardens and Corey Holly of the Roosevelt Internal Medicine Clinic ($50 restaurant certificates); Elizabeth Ann Mencarelli of the School of Dentistry (tickets to the Arizona State football game on Nov. 8) and Chad Savaikie of the Primate Center and Cynthia Marks of Biostatistics (tickets to the Paul Taylor Dance Company).

Faculty and staff filled Red Square for the celebration, enjoying lunch provided by Bay Laurel Catering and prepared by UW administrators, according to the event’s tradition. Guests also picked up complimentary UW caps. Attendance numbers weren’t immediately available, but it’s guessed that between 5,000 and 6,000 guests came to this year’s bash, which helped kick off the events of Washington Weekend.

Pocket Change, a band composed of UW School of Music students and recent graduates, played and it was announced that Student Fiscal Services Outreach was the winner of the campuswide My Team is Great contest. A good time was had by all.
