Gerberding: A real bell tower at last

The bell tower in Gerberding Hall — which has stood empty since the building’s construction in 1953 — has acquired a new set of eight bells. A gift of the Gordon Stuart Peek Foundation, the bells are being installed this week. Peek is a UW alumnus and retired history professor who spent the bulk of his career at Seattle Central Community College. Our photographers recorded the bells’ progress from storage crates into the tower on Monday, April 28. Work continues inside the tower. The dedication and first public ringing of the bells will be on May 31.
