Tower dedication set for April 25th

On Friday, April 25, the newest addition to the UW campus — the UW Tower — will be dedicated, and everyone is invited.

The celebration begins at noon with welcoming remarks by President Mark Emmert. Brian Ives, president of the Greater University Chamber of Commerce will speak. Then, Paula Reynolds, president and CEO of Safeco, former owner of the tower, will pass a symbolic key to Emmert.

After that, the tower will be open for guided tours of four floors until 2 p.m. And incidentally, the tour does include the top floor — the 22nd — with its spectacular views. Refreshments will be served to visitors.

Planning and Budgeting was the first department to move into the tower, arriving in February. Other units that either have moved in or will soon include Educational Outreach, UW Technology, the Attorney General’s Office and University Press. The tower is serving to unite some departments that were spread all over campus, and the space some of them have vacated on central campus can now be used for more academically oriented functions.
