BFA students showcased in upcoming exhibits

Who are the next generation of great artists? What traditions and inspirations are they drawing upon to create the next great work? One answer can be found at the UW School of Art spring BFA shows at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery.

The School of Art is known for producing high quality, successful visual artists. The class of 2008 is no exception, and has raised the bar both in quality of work and in the innovative and interdisciplinary approach to creation. This spring’s graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts students will be featured throughout the spring quarter in a pair of shows in the Jacob Lawrence Gallery.

The first BFA show will feature the students of ceramics and photography. This show will run from April 16 to May 3, with an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15.

The second show of the spring will feature the BFA graduates working in metals, fibers, sculpture or painting. That exhibit will run from May 14 to May 31, and will open with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13.

Both receptions are free and open to the public and will feature refreshments and a chance to meet the curators and artists.

The Jacob Lawrence Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. The gallery is located on the 1st floor of the School of Art Building.
