New Zealand group Black Grace making Seattle debut at Meany April 3-5
Black Grace, a hit group from New Zealand that combines contemporary Samoan and Maori dance, music and even acrobatics, will play three shows at Meany Hall, Thursday through Saturday, April 3-5.
Black Grace will perform at 8 p.m. on these three nights. Ticket holders are invited to attend a 30-minute pre-show lecture about the group at 7:15 p.m. each evening in the Meany Hall west lobby.
Also, Black Grace founder and choreographer Neil Ieremia will join a panel of speakers for lively discussion about Samoan and Maori culture and artistic expression past and present. The forum is free and takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in 220 Kane.
The group has toured extensively through New Zealand and internationally to critical acclaim. In 2005, the company celebrated its 10th anniversary and performed to sell-out seasons in Auckland, followed by an extensive tour of the US and Mexico.
