Art show, ‘open stage’ planned by Filipino American group

Makipag, a student organization designed to support and inspire artistic expression among Filipino Americans, will host an art show and an “open stage” event at the Ethnic Cultural Theatre on Sunday, March 9.

The open stage portion of the program is a reimagination of the “open mic” format, allowing a broader range of performances — including dancers, storytellers, musicians, poets, comedians and actors/actresses. Meanwhile in the lobby, there will be a visual art exhibit made up of work by invited local artists from the Filipino American community.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for guests to view the art show in the lobby and for performers to sign up for the open stage, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

The show is free and open to the public; donations are welcome. For more information, e-mail makipag@u.washington.edu or visit http://students.washington.edu/makipag.
