’24’: A night of music from wind ensemble, bands on March 11

The UW Wind Ensemble and symphonic, concert and campus bands will perform works by H. Owen Reed, Joseph Schwantner, Percy Grainger, Alan Hovhaness, Frank Ticheli and more at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in Meany Theater. The concert, which offers musical reflections on day and night, is titled 24.


The UW Wind Ensemble, conducted by Timothy Salzman, will play Percussion Concerto, by Joseph Schwantner. Students Christopher Lennard, Bryan Yarkosky, and Christian Krehbiel will be featured soloists. The ensemble also will play Michigan Morn by H. Owen Reed, with faculty artist Joyce Guyer, soprano, as featured soloist.


The UW Campus Band, conducted by Scott Atchison, will play Two Grainger Melodies by Percy Grainger, arrangement by Paul Krienes; and Night Dances by Bruce Yurko.


UW Concert Band, conducted by Eric Smedley, conductor, will play Still Wie Die Nacht by Karl Bohm, arranged by Spinney; and Suite for Band by Alan Hovhaness.


The UW Symphonic Band, conducted by J. Bradley McDavid, will play 12 Seconds to the Moon by Robert W. Smith and Wild Nights by Frank Ticheli, with Eric Smedley conducting.
