School of Art Open in Jacob Lawrence Gallery

The School of Art Open exhibit opens this week in the Jacob Lawrence Gallery.

The exhibition is a competitive juried show that draws from the work of a diverse range of graduate and undergraduate students. There is no limit on the medium or size and the work is sure to push the artistic envelope. The show will be juried by Billy Howard from Seattle’s Howard House, and is curated by Art History doctoral student Kris Anderson and BFA student Kamiana Gangnes.

During their tenure in the UW School of Art, students are faced daily with assignments designed to pinpoint specific themes or skill sets within their artistic disciplines, but rarely do these students have the chance to create work without guidelines or boundaries. By eliminating all restrictions regarding subject, size or media, the School of Art Open juried show provides students with the impetus to step beyond the limits of their class-work and to explore the full, unbridled range of their creativity.

The Jacob Lawrence Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. It is located on the first floor of the Art Building. The exhibition will be in the gallery through March 16.
