Guest artist to perform on viola Feb. 15

Guest artist Linda Kline Lamar, associate professor of viola at Boise State University, will perform solo works for viola at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in the School of Music’s Brechemin Auditorium.


Lamar will perform Joan Tower’s Wild Purple, Maurice Gardner’s Tricinium, Max Reger’s Suite No. 1 in G minor and Alan Hovhaness’ Chahagir.


In addition to her viola instruction, Lamar also teaches music theory, ear training and chamber music. She teaches and performs at the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory in Steamboat Springs, Colo.


Before coming to Boise State, Lamar was a faculty member at the Baylor University String Quartet Seminar in Waco, Texas; The Music Academy of Rhodes College; and the Rhodes College Chamber Music Camp in Memphis, Tenn. She has taught music appreciation and theory at The University of Memphis and its Community Music School and was a founding co-director and faculty member of Chamber Music for Strings, a program for young string players in Memphis.


Lamar performs regular solos and chamber music recitals and concertos, including recent performances at Strings in the Mountains in Steamboat Springs, Colo., and the University of Memphis in 2007. As an orchestral musician, she has performed with the IRIS Chamber Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Erie Philharmonic, the Youngstown Symphony, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, and the Garth Newel Chamber Orchestra.


An active member of the American String Teacher’s Association and the American Viola Society, Lamar has presented clinics and master classes across the country.
