Administrative changes at Harborview Medical Center

Dr. Scott Barnhart steps down as HMC medical director

Dr. Scott Barnhart is stepping down as associate dean of the School of Medicine and medical director at Harborview Medical Center, a post he has held for the past eight years. Barnhart, professor of medicine, will remain on the general internal medicine faculty. Dr. Richard Goss, associate professor in general internal medicine and associate medical director for quality improvement at Harborview, has been appointed acting medical director, as of March 1.

Cindy Hecker appointed Acting Chief Operating Officer

Cindy Hecker, chief nursing officer, has been appointed acting chief operating officer, effective Feb. 1, to guide the move into our new facilities. “This position has been vacant over the past six months and with the upcoming move into the Inpatient Expansion Building the timing is right to appoint an acting role,” said Johnese Spisso, UW vice president for medical affairs and COO for UW Medicine. “Cindy is best suited for these responsibilities given her vast experience at Harborview and her work on our previous move into the new buildings in 1998.” Hecker’s current position will be filled by Becky Pierce, assistant administrator for Patient Care Services, who becomes acting chief nursing officer, effective Feb. 1.

Harborview Executive Director search update

Harborview’s search for a new executive director is progressing well. The search committee has completed their work and forwarded on the top candidates to Johnese Spisso. Interviews will be scheduled in February for the finalists with a broad representation from Harborview’s leadership team, UW physicians based at Harborview, UW medicine leadership and the Harborview Board of Trustees. The process is anticipated to be completed in March/April 2008. In the meantime, Spisso continues to serve as interim executive director for Harborview.
