Simon Shaheen, Mihaela Ursuleasa Trio to perform Jan. 26 at Meany Hall

The Simon Shaheen Trio will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, and Romanian piano Virtuoso Mihaela Ursuleasa will debut at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. Both concerts are in Meany Hall, and are presented by the UW World Series

A virtuoso performer on the oud and the violin, the Palestinian-born Shaheen moves effortlessly from intricate Arabic sounds to jazz, Latin American music and Western and classical styles. The concert is sponsored by the UW World Series. For his Meany Hall debut, Shaheen will be joined by Walid Zairi on double bass and Dafir Tawil on percussion. Shaheen also will speak with ticket-holders in a free pre-show lecture 45 minutes prior to curtain in the Meany Hall west lobby. Tickets are $32 for general admission, $29 for subscribers and $20 for students.

The unique combination of vivacious playing, technical finesse, and lyrical talent makes Mihaela Ursuleasa one of today’s most exciting pianists. Ticket holders are invited to come early to learn more about Ursuleasa and the music she will be performing at a free pre-show lecture, at 7:15 p.m. in the Meany Hall west lobby. Tickets for Ursuleasa are $34 for general admission, $31 for subscribers and $20 for students.
