A warm thought: UW Summer Youth Programs registering
Here in the coldest part of winter, it’s heartening that plans for summer are already under way. Registration is now open for UW Summer Youth Programs, which offer entertaining and educational programs for students of all ages.
Summer Day Camp at the Arboretum will run for three weeklong sessions, June 23-27 (grades one through three), July 7-11 (grades one through three) and July 14-18 (grades three through five). Throughout these one-week camps children learn about plants, the ecology of the arboretum’s wetlands and the importance of environmental stewardship.
Summer Day Camp integrates art, science, drama and creative writing in three sessions, each with a different theme. The classes are for students entering first through fifth grades. “To Space and Beyond: The Solar System” will be from June 23 to July 11; “The Seven Seas” will be from July 14 to Aug. 1 and “There’s Gold in Them There Hills!” will be from Aug. 4 to 15.
Middle School Academy and Middle School Short Courses, for students entering grades six through eight, offer students the chance to investigate topics through art, drama, science, math, creative writing and more, in two weeks of classes. The programs begin July 7 and July 21.
Courses for High School Students are also open for registration. These noncredit courses include computer programming, the Puget Sound Young Writers Workshop, screenwriting and more. Two sessions: June 23–27 and July 7–11.
