Foege named among 18 ‘best leaders’

UW School of Medicine alumnus Dr. William H. Foege, for whom the new building housing the departments of Bioengineering and Genome Sciences is named, was identified as one of 18 of “America’s Best Leaders” by U.S. News & World Report last week.

Foege, now a senior fellow for the Gates Foundation, is a former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and of the Carter Center in Atlanta. “America’s Best Leaders” is a collaboration between U.S. News and the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

The honorees were selected by a committee of academic, government, business, and nonprofit leaders convened by the center. The publication includes a tribute article by Dr. Jim Yong Kim on Foege’s work in global health and disease prevention.
