Solar power documentary to be shown Nov. 19

A documentary film on solar power, the brainchild of Nobel Prize winner Walter Kohn, will be shown Nov. 19 in Kane Hall, and Kohn will lead a question-and-answer session afterward.

The Power of the Sun is narrated by John Cleese and is billed as “a scientific morality tale,” telling how the ideas and technology to tap the sun’s rays for clean, safe and renewable energy were developed.

Kohn, a professor emeritus of physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, recruited fellow Nobelist Alan Heeger, a UC Santa Barbara physics professor, for the scientific advisory board that developed the 56-minute documentary. The film will be shown at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, in 130 Kane Hall.
