Media advisory: Engineering students create electrifying Halloween decorations
WHAT:
Rolling robots, mechanical monsters that follow you, spooky candy jars: all are motorized Halloween decorations built by University of Washington electrical engineering students competing in a new departmental contest.
WHO:
Students who entered the competition.
UW students, faculty and staff, and their children, who will see the entries and vote for their favorites.
WHEN:
Friday, Oct. 26, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE:
UW Seattle campus, electrical engineering building basement
DETAILS:
This is the inaugural HallowEEn Challenge, in which electrical engineering students form groups and design fun, electrically inspired decorations. Students are vying for the $700 first prize. Judging is open to members of the public. The nine entries will be on display Friday, Oct. 26 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Entries include The Grad Student, a pumpkin-headed rolling robot; the Spooky Vision Monster that turns its head as people walk by; and the Glowing Pumpkins, a light show inside carved pumpkins.
Setup will begin at 3:30 p.m. after the change of classes.
