Angelosante joins Health Sciences Administration

James Angelosante has been named director of finance and administration for Health Sciences Administration (HSA). He succeeds Kathryn Waddell in the position. Waddell was appointed executive director of Health Sciences Administration by UW President Mark Emmert.

Angelosante joined the UW in January 2005 as administrator of the Washington National Primate Research Center; in July of that year he was appointed associate director of finance and administration of the center. Prior to coming to the UW, he served in the U.S. Army 25 years before retiring at the rank of colonel and chief financial officer at Fort Lewis, Wash.

As director of finance and administration for HSA, Angelosante’s responsibilities include management of grants, gifts, budgets and audits; management of clinical fee schedules, productivity guidelines, information systems, analyses and strategies. He will further provide management assistance and advice to HSA units to improve organizational structures, financial conditions, personnel management, service delivery and client relations.

Units under Health Sciences Administration include the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute, the Center for Human Development and Disability, Institute on Aging, Washington National Primate Research Center, UW Medicine/Health Sciences (HS) News and Community Relations, HS Risk management; and HS Academic Services and Facilities. HSA has campuswide responsibilities for Campus Health Service (Employee Health Service), Environmental Health and Safety, Hall Health Primary Care Center, and the UW’s Office of Animal Welfare. HSA offers assistance and advice to the six schools of the Health Sciences — medicine, nursing, public health and community medicine, dentistry, social work and pharmacy — in administrative areas of personnel, budgeting, and capital budgeting and financial management.

Angelosante holds master’s degrees in business administration from Syracuse University (N.Y.) and in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa. He received his undergraduate degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
