Author, researcher to speak on multiculturalism in Britain
Researcher and author Audrey Osler will be the featured speaker for the Center for Multicultural Education at the UW’s 24th symposium-lecture, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in 310 HUB. Osler’s topic will be Citizenship, Multiculturalism and Minority Education in Britain: A Question of Civil Rights or Human Rights?
Osler is professor of education and director of the Centre for Citizenship and Human Rights Education at the University of Leeds, UK. She has a well-established reputation for research in international and comparative education, education for human rights, equalities and democratic citizsnehip,and children’s rights.
In 1999, Osler was elected to the Royal Society of Arts. She has published 16 books, including The Education and Careers of Black Teachers (1997), Girls and Exclusion (2003), Teachers, Human Rights and Diversity (2005) and Changing Citizenship: Democracy and Inclusion in America (2005).
The Center for Multiculturalism at the UW is directed by James A. Banks, professor of education, the second edition of whose most recent book, Educating Citizens in a Multicultural Society, has recently been released.
