Jeffords heads to UW Bothell

Susan Jeffords has been named interim vice chancellor for academic affairs at UW Bothell, subject to approval by the UW Board of Regents.

“We are excited to have this renowned educational leader join our campus,” said UWB Chancellor Kenyon Chan. “Susan brings a great energy coupled with years of experience and creative ideas for working with our talented faculty. This partnership will serve UW Bothell well in its next stage of development.”

Jeffords will provide leadership to the campus’ academic programs and administrative structures. Her work will be instrumental in strengthening the connections amongst UW Bothell’s academic programs and between the campus, local community colleges and the surrounding communities.

Jeffords has been UW’s vice provost for global affairs and a professor of English and women studies. Her previous positions at UW include vice provost for academic planning, divisional dean for social sciences and chair of the Women Studies Department.

In her role as vice provost for global affairs, Jeffords oversaw the University’s institutional objectives for international engagement and initiatives in the global arena, working diligently to raise the UW’s international profile.

Jeffords received her master’s and doctorate in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include gender, militarism issues, feminist theory and popular culture. She is the author of Seeing Through the Media: The Persian Gulf War and Hard Bodies: Hollywood Masculinity in the Reagan Era.

Jeffords replaces G. Thomas Bellamy, who has returned to the faculty. She will serve for one year, subject to renewal.
