ThINK: Subject Recruitment and Retention, April 25 & May 8

The Investigator Needs to Know (ThINK) seminar presents a two-part lecture series, Subject Recruitment and Retention: Strategies that Work, Wednesday, April 25, and Tuesday, May 8, from 4:30 to 5:30 p. m. Subject recruitment is a continual challenge to clinical researchers and will be examined in this two-part series.


Part One: Subject Recruitment/Retention Issues of General Interest

  • Cost-Effective Recruitment Strategies by Donna Edgerton, director of clinical operations, Sonus Pharmaceuticals, Bothell, Wash.

  • Collaborative Approach with Community Physicians by Jan Englund, associate professor of pediatrics, Division of Immunology/Rheumatology, Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center.


Part Two: Subject Recruitment and Retention: Strategies that Work

  • Recruiting Women by Shirley Beresford, professor of epidemiology, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Women’s Health Initiative.

  • Recruiting Subjects about a Sensitive Topic by Kathryn Korslund, associate director of Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics (BRTC), Department of Psychology, and Angela Murray-Gregory, lead clinical assessor, BRTC.

  • Longitudinal Research with Minority Populations by Brenda Montgomery, Diabetes Research Group, Department of Medicine, VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

  • Acute/Critically Ill Populations by Margaret Neff, assistant professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, Harborview Medical Center.
