Silk Road Lecture Series presents ‘The Monks of Kublai Khan’
Joel Thomas Walker, UW associate professor of history and adjunct professor in Near Eastern Languages and Civilization, will speak on The Monks of Kublai Khan: Christianity Under the Mongols, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in 110 Kane. The presentation is free and the public is welcome.
Walker, who is also a member of the Comparative Religion Program, conducts research focusing on the late antique Middle East, especially the cultural history of the Sasanian Empire. His first book, The Legend of Mar Qardagh: Narrative and Christian Heroism in Late Antique Iraq, was published in 2006.
The event is part of the Silk Road Lecture series, sponsored by the Simpson Center for the Humanities, the Silkroad Foundation, the Ellison Center for Russian, East European & Central Asian Studies, the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization, the School of Art’s Division of Art History and the Department of Asian Languages & Literature.
