Guitars, double bass, piano among latest from School of Music

The UW School of Music has several concert events in coming days, including guitar students, a double bass player and guest artists the Affinity Ensemble and pianist Christina Valdes. All three coming events will be held in the Brechemin Auditorium.


On Friday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m., students of Steven Novacek will perform guitar duos, trios and ensembles in a concert titled Guitar Ensemble. All tickets are $5.


International touring artist Christina Valdes will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in a recital of 20th and 21st century music, with a focus on French composers. Valdes has found renown for her innovative programs both as a soloist and a chamber musician. Tickets for this concert are $10 each.


On Sunday, Feb. 18 will be a concert by the Seattle Symphony’s newest double bass player, Joseph Kaufman. “Barry Lieberman & Friends: Joseph Kaufman, double bass will be performed at 2 p.m., and all tickets are $10.


Finally, on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m., the Affinity ensemble, a group of talented local musicians, many of whom are teachers, who play contemporary classical works, will perform in a concert that features the work of several Northwest composers, such as Brad Sherman, Ryan Hare, Christopher Sainin, Chris Stover and Sarah Bassingthwaighte.
