College of Education’s annual February Forum to focus on the ‘achievement gap’

As the demographics of Washington’s schools continue to change, can students meet increasing expectations of achievement? Faculty members from the UW College of Education will address this and other questions in a public forum titled Closing the Gap: New Strategies for a Changing 21st Century Classroom, from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Town Hall in Seattle.

Research and test scores show that achievement gaps exist between minority and non-minority students, between low-income students and the more affluent and between typically developing and developmentally disabled children. Addressing this concern will be UW College of Education professors Phil Bell, Frances Contreras, Carol Davis, Chrysan Callucci, Margery Ginsberg and Lani Horn. Each will share research, then the conversation will be continued with audience participation.

Town Hall is located at 1119 Eighth Ave. in Seattle. The event is free, but advance registration is required. For more information or reservations, call the UW Alumni Association at 206-543-0540 or visit online at www.uwalum.com
