Sherrilynne Fuller presents the Education in Medicine lecture Jan. 5
Dr. Sherrilynne Fuller, associate dean of University Libraries and director of the UW Health Sciences Libraries, will present “The Role of Medical Librarians in Evidence-Based Medicine Education and Practice — Opportunities and Challenges” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Jan. 5, in Hogness Auditorium. The lecture is part of the School of Medicine’s Education in Medicine lecture series.
Fuller, professor of biomedical and health informatics in the UW School of Medicine and Information School, also serves as co-director, Center for Public Health Informatics in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
In the 1990s, Fuller led the Integrated Advanced Information Management Systems planning and implementation process for the UW Health Sciences Schools and Medical Center. The process resulted in clinical information systems decision support innovations such as MindScape, one of the first Web-based integrated interfaces to clinical information, and PrimeAnswers, a system that provides primary care decision support, as well as applications of technology in medical education.
From 1997-2001, Fuller served as the founding head of the School of Medicine’s Division of Biomedical and Health Informatics. Her research areas include design and evaluation of health-information systems to support decision making at the place and time of need and approaches to extracting and mapping the results of scientific research in support of improved information access and knowledge discovery. Two knowledge bases — Biomarkers in Alzheimer’s disease and Caloric Restriction in Aging are currently available through the Telemakus KB system developed by Fuller’s research group.
Fuller also served as a member of the President’s White House Information Technology Advisory Committee, the Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine and the boards of the American Medical Informatics Association and the Medical Library Association. She is an elected fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and of the Medical Library Association.
