Harry Kimball honored by chest physicians organization

Dr. Harry R. Kimball, senior advisor to the dean of the UW School of Medicine, has received the American College of Chest Physicians’ College Medalist Award, one of the highest honors granted by the organization, given to recognize meritorious service in furthering progress in the field of chest diseases.

Kimball, a clinical professor of medicine at the UW, has received numerous awards and honors for his work in pulmonary medicine, and has served as a leader in medical education and professionalism. He led the American Board of Internal Medicine, as its president and CEO, from 1991 to 2003, and is now president emeritus of the organization.

Kimball came to the UW for his residency after completing his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He also served as chief medical resident and instructor of medicine at the UW.

Kimball has also been a senior investigator and deputy clinical director in the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a professor of medicine at Tufts University, and chief of general internal medicine at the New England Medical Center in Boston. He is a master of the American College of Physicians, fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London, distinguished fellow of the European Federation of Internal Medicine, and adjunct professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
