School of Music offers a host of concerts in November

The School of Music will offer six different concert experiences through November — from chamber singers and ensembles to campus bands and even jazz.

  • The Chamber Singers, conducted by Geoffrey Boers, and the University Chorale, conducted by Giselle Wyers, will team up to present a concert about the mystery of love, from both male and female perspectives, in The Voice of the Turtle — Songs of Life and Love at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the Meany Theater. Tickets are $10 each.
Wyers, who joined the UW this year, is the new conductor of the University Chorale and makes her debut with this concert. An assistant professor of choral studies and voice, she teaches courses in voice and choral conducting and repertoire. Before coming to the UW, she was director of choral activities at Boise State University.

  • The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Timothy Salzman; the Concert Band, and the Campus Band, under various conductors, will team to present Icons, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, in Meany Theater. Tickets are $10 each.

  • The UW Contemporary Group, directed by doctoral student Juyong Kwon, will perform works by several composers at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in Meany Theater. Tickets are $10 each.

  • A variety of small ensembles will perform works by greats Pat Metheny and Miles Davis as well as student-arranged works and jazz standards in two Jazz Innovations Concerts, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, and Thursday, Nov. 30, both in Brechemin Auditorium. Tickets are $5 each.

  • Voice students in the School of Music will present a program of music by Robert Schumann at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in Brechemin Auditorium. The concert commemorates the sesquicentennial of the composer’s death in 1856, and will be complemented by brief historical remarks by George Bozarth, UW professor of music history. Tickets are $5 each.
