Faubion named student regent

Jennifer Faubion, a third-year law student from Kapowsin, Wash., has been appointed by Gov. Christine Gregoire as the student representative on the UW Board of Regents. Her term is for one year and began July 1.

Faubion, who has a bachelor’s degree in history from the UW, has served on the executive board of the UW Law School Moot Court Honor Board, the Service and Activities Fee Committee and also as an ASUW student senator. She also has been involved with the UW School of Law Mediation Competition.

“I love this University,” Faubion said. “I felt that my experience with student government and administration was such that I could represent the student experience to the governing body — and the governing body to the students — in a thoughtful, accurate and personal way. I also was inspired to apply now because of the change in administration over the past couple of years. This is an exciting time for the University and I look forward to working with President Emmert, student leadership and the greater campus community to improve the quality of education, facilities, research and student life.”

Although Faubion will be involved in the broad range of issues that are reviewed by the board, she is particularly interested in exploring a capital plan for facilities used by students, such as the HUB, Hall Health Center and the Ethnic Cultural Center.

“These facilities are often placed below academic buildings when capital funding is at stake, so I would like to work out something especially for these facilities that will address long term needs such as remodeling or renovation,” she said.

Faubion is the fourth law student to serve as a student regent and was chosen from a pool of more than 3,000 student applicants.
