Tour new UW Regional Heart Center June 13

The UW Medicine Regional Heart Center will have a public open house at UW Medical Center on Tuesday, June 13, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The entrance to the Regional Heart Center is now right off the main lobby on the third floor of UW Medical Center, and the central location brings together cardiology services that were previously scattered around the hospital.

“This location offers convenient access for our patients,” said Dr. Larry Dean, director of the UW Medicine Regional Heart Center.

The project created 30,000 square feet of space for the Cardiovascular Clinic, echocardiography and EKG services on the third floor at UW Medical Center. One floor below is a new cardiovascular procedures area. This area includes two catheterization labs, an electrophysiology lab, a special procedures lab, a vascular angiography lab, and patient waiting and recovery areas. Also nearby is the radiology area with its two new 64-slice CT scanners and PET/CT imaging.

“This clinic space was designed to make it work best for us and for our patients. We are certainly excited about its opening and welcome everyone to join us on June 13,” Dean said.

The opening will include opportunities to tour the new facilities and refreshments.

Enhancements beyond the cardiology clinic on the third floor include relocation and expansion of the outpatient pharmacy and blood draw areas, admitting/clinic registration and financial counseling.

A cosmetic upgrade to the main medical center lobby includes new lighting, terrazzo flooring, paint, furniture, a renovated gift shop, a new espresso bar and new Patient and Family Education Resource Center.

The UW Medicine Regional Heart Center combines all areas of cardiology, cardiac surgery and cardiac anesthesia into one continuum of care for patients with cardiovascular disease.

The UW Medicine heart program is the only one in Western Washington that performs cardiac transplantation.
