Brown bag on Stevens Way project set for May 16

If you’re interested in how the next phase of construction on Stevens Way will impact you this summer, the Capital Projects Office will host a brown bag presentation on the project from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in 193 Gerberding.

Work on Stevens Way — the continuation of a project that has been under way since 2000 — will begin June 12. New cement concrete pavement roadway and pedestrian walkways will be installed from Pend Oreille Road (by Padelford) to approximately the Art Building.

That section of Stevens Way will be closed to motorists and pedestrians June 12, to allow the contractor to demolish the existing roadbed, sidewalks and utilities, then install new water, storm, and sewer lines, install new 10 inch thick, asphalt concrete pavement and sidewalks along with landscape restoration.

The contractor will work daily from 1 to 10 p.m. The road, therefore, will be closed to vehicular traffic until Aug. 18. During the construction period, all Community Transit bus service will be routed off-campus. Metro will alter services for all campus routes except 46, 65, 75, 68 and 372. The impacted Metro & Community Transit buses will use stops on 15th Avenue NE and on NE Pacific Street as their main pick-up and drop-off locations. Stevens Way will reopen on Aug. 19 to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Questions about the project can be directed to Ivan Turner at 206-221-4382.
