Symposium to open Imaging Center

An afternoon symposium with internationally recognized experts in magnetic resonance imaging will mark the opening of the Department of Radiology’s new Bio-Molecular Imaging Center at South Lake Union from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9.

The program will be held in the Blue Flame Auditorium, 815 Mercer St., with a reception following in the building lobby. The symposium is free and no registration is required. Sponsors are the Department of Radiology and the UW TechTransfer Office.

Speakers will talk about using MRI for cardiovascular disease, animal models and molecular studies. The Bio-Molecular Imaging Center will develop novel imaging techniques for anatomical, functional, tissue and molecular applications. It will provide a full range of imaging services and will facilitate collaborative research with biomedical institutions throughout the Northwest. In addition, the center will allow new international imaging projects.

In collaboration with Philips Medical Systems, a state-of-the-art Achieva 3T whole-body scanner will be available and geared toward animal, translational and human research.
