Artist Maya Lin coming to Henry Art Gallery

Maya Lin, the award-winning artist who designed the evocative Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will speak at the UW on April 20, prior to the opening of an exhibit of her work at the Henry Art Gallery.

Lin, a member of both the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, in 130 Kane. Tickets went on sale Monday, March 20, and range from $10 to $40.

From April 22 though Oct. 1, the Henry will present Maya Lin: Systematic Landscapes, an exhibit comprising Lin’s views of the natural world, from the topology of the ocean floor to icebergs and the imagined form of a large body of water.

Richard Andrews, director of the Henry and organizer of the show, wrote in program notes, “Maya Lin has an extraordinary ability to convey complex and poetic ideas using simple forms and natural materials, wedding a deep interest in the forces and forms of nature with a long-term investigation into the possibilities of sculpture to embody meaning.” The exhibit, he wrote, “offers a deep view into her work and an immersive experience for visitors.”
