Graduate, Professional Education Week celebrated with varied events

Varied events are scheduled for Graduate and Professional Education Week at the UW, March 6-10, sponsored by The Graduate School, GPSS, UW Alumni Association and the Center for Career Services.

Proclaimed by Gov. Gregoire and Seattle Mayor Nickels, this week is designed to celebrate and promote the accomplishments of the UW’s outstanding graduate and professional students and to highlight the importance of graduate education today.

The focal event for the week is the GO-MAP Graduate Diversity Fellows Dinner, March 7, featuring Gloria Steinem. Steinem will also deliver the Danz lecture at Town Hall March 8 on the subject, …As if Women Mattered.

Forum: Race and Policy Making in American Life, A public discussion on how public policy can foster equality and justice in a country where many barriers to these goals remain, 2:30-4 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, Johnson 75.

Lecture: Graduate Education Today: Conflicting Views from Pollyanna and Cassandra, by Catharine Stimpson, professor and dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, New York University, 2–3 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 102 Johnson Auditorium.

Seminar: Careers, Career Paths, Family and Career Usefulness of the PhD, 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 200B HUB.

Event: Graduate & Professional Student Networking Social, an evening of networking by graduate and professional students with business and community outreach leaders and alumni for job, volunteer and information opportunities, 5 p.m. Thursday, March 9, Computer Science & Engineering Atrium.
