UW School of Law International Moot Court Team Wins Regional Competition

The UW School of Law team won the southwest regional Jessup International Moot Court Competition at the University of Texas at Austin, Feb. 18-19. The team, composed of students Mohamed Rali Badissy, David Martin, Travis Exstrom, Jenny Houghton and Kim Cozzetto, is one of 10 to advance to the international championship in Washington, DC, March 26.

Students Exstrom and Martin were awarded best and second-best speaker, respectively, and the team won the award for best memorial (written submission). Coached by professors Kristen Stilt and Joel Ngugi, the team won both semifinal and final rounds by unanimous vote of the judges.

The Jessup Competition, administered by the International Law Students Association (ILSA), is widely recognized as the largest and most prestigious international law moot court competition in the world. Law students from all over the world participate in the annual competition, which focuses on international and transnational law.

In addition to participation in the competition, the UW School of Law will host a Jessup Regional Competition Friday, Feb. 24 in Gates Hall.
