‘Go Red for Women’ lunch coming Feb. 28

A 15-foot mesh form, complete with red lights in the shape of a dress, appeared last week on the roof above UW Medical Center’s Valet Parking kiosk. It will be there for another week as a symbol for the medical center’s participation in the “Go Red for Women” campaign, an American Heart Association-led effort to focus on women and heart disease prevention. At the end of the month, the lighted red dress will move to Harborview Medical Center.

UW Medicine Regional Heart Center is the presenting sponsor for the Go Red for Women Luncheon, to be held at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Westin Seattle Hotel. Dr. Rosario Freeman, assistant professor of medicine at the Regional Heart Center, is the featured speaker.

The luncheon theme focuses on the threat of heart disease to women’s lives; the influence of women at home, in the community and at work, and the ties from one generation of women to the next. The event is designed to mobilize women as advocates for family health by increasing awareness of heart disease and healthy lifestyle changes.

Cost to attend the luncheon is $100. To make reservations, contact Christy Wyatt at 206-834-8647 or by e-mail at christy.wyatt@heart.org.
