Connect globally at ‘Passport to Health’ Open House

Exhibitors are now signing up to reserve space for the 31st Health Sciences Open House, “Passport to Health: Make the Global Connection!”

Slated for Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29, this important community outreach event provides the opportunity to inform the general public about the education, research and patient care programs of the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health and Community Medicine, and Social Work, their affiliates and the medical centers.

Held every two years at the UW Health Sciences Center, this family-friendly event attracts thousands of high school students and community members to our facilities.

The event is free and open to everyone. Because many area high school groups visit on Friday, families are encouraged to attend on Saturday.

Many of these hands-on, interactive exhibits feature virtual reality medical presentations, high-tech patient simulators and computerized models of recent research. Information will be available on educational and career opportunities in health sciences.

Dr. Mark Oberle, professor and associate dean at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, is the 2006 Open House honorary chair. Oberle, a faculty member since 1987, is affiliated with the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice and directs the new Center for Public Health Informatics.

All departments are encouraged to participate in Open House 2006 with an exhibit. Exhibitors can complete the Open House Exhibitor Registration form, which is available online at the Open House site, listed below.

Applications for exhibit space are due Friday, March 3. An Open House Exhibitor Information Meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 3:30 p.m. in Hogness Auditorium.

The meeting will outline some of the exciting changes for this year’s Open House and will include information about resources for exhibitors.

Please register by e-mail to jenjo@u.washington.edu.

If you are unable to attend, please send a representative from your area to the meeting.
