HFS kicks off annual Giving Tree program
For the 20th year the Giving Tree, a project of the Department of Housing and Food Services and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), is asking faculty, staff and students to help make a difference in a child’s holiday.
Beginning Monday, Nov. 28, members of the campus community can stop by a Giving Tree location, including the HUB Information Desk, South Campus Center Information Desk, Ethnic Cultural Center, residence hall desks, and various HFS Offices. The trees are “decorated” with gift tags that include the name of a particular children’s book and its author. Select a gift tag, purchase the book and return both the tag and unwrapped gift to a Giving Tree location by 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 12.
Approximately 500 gift tags will be distributed through Neighborhood House, with additional tags available should UW students, faculty and staff wish to make more donations.
As Liz-Beth Levy, development manager from Neighborhood House, said, “All children should experience the joy of reading a book of their very own. For many families served by Neighborhood House, owning a book can be a luxury. The UW Giving Tree program offers an opportunity to provide a child with the gift of a new book to take home.”
