SLUGs will eat tapas, and you are invited

The SLUGs are having tapas this week, and everyone is invited to join them. The South Lake Union Group, started by postdoctoral fellows now working at the 815 Mercer building in UW Medicine’s South Lake Union research hub, regularly holds seminars with tapas served in an informal atmosphere. The group even has a somewhat artistic “slug-trail” logo. Dr. Rob Welikson, postdoctoral fellow in biochemistry, explained that while the name and the logo add a touch of humor, the group has the serious purpose of fostering interaction among scientists working at the new site and at other institutions in the South Lake Union area. The group also hopes to encourage more fellows and faculty from the main campus to visit 815 Mercer.

A special seminar on Thursday, Aug. 4, will feature Dr. Andre Lieber, UW research associate professor in the Division of Medical Genetics, speaking on “Oncolytic Adenoviruses: Progress and Challenges.” The program will be in the first-floor auditorium of 815 Mercer at 4 p.m. A shuttle is available from the Health Sciences Building on campus.
