Student creativity spotlighted in 2005 Dance Majors Concert

Choreographed pieces created by 14 graduating seniors and danced by 50 or more students will be featured when the UW Dance Program presents the 2005 Dance Majors Concert, May 19-22 in the Meany Studio Theater.

Student choreographers have worked for five months, rehearsing and receiving critiques from peers and faculty, preparing their pieces for the annual concert. Several choreographers have collaborated with specialists in music editing, lighting and costume design and composing for original, unique pieces.

Pieces include Unity Concept, featuring three dancers exploring spatial relationships and syncopated rhythms; In the Country, a bit of fun and satire; Rootz, blending ballet, jazz and hip-hop; and After Close, which envisions movement among department store mannequins.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, May 19-21, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 22. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors, available at the door or through the UW Arts Ticket Office, 206-543-4880.
