World War II is subject of lecture series May 10-July 26
In the UW Alumni Association lecture series, “World War II: The War That Changed America,” seven distinguished history professors will talk about the many ways this watershed event affected life away from the battlefield — positive and negative.
The lectures will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on May 10, 17, and 24; June 14 and 28; and July 12 and 26, in 130 Kane.
Tickets for the series are $55 for UWAA members, $65 for non-members and $25 for UW students. Individual lecture tickets cost $12 for UWAA members, $15 for non-members and $5 for UW students. - May 10 — Harry Truman: One of the Many Changed by the War, by Richard Kirkendall, UW professor emeritus of history.
- May 17 — The Physicists’ War: Military Research and the New World After World War II, by Bruce Hevly, UW associate professor of history.
- May 24 — World War II and New Horizons for American Women, by Elizabeth Escobedo, assistant professor of history, Univ. of Texas-San Antonio.
- June 14 — The War and Race: A Changed America? by Quintard Taylor, UW Scott and Dorothy Bullitt professor of American history.
- June 28 — The War and the Transformation of the Pacific Northwest, by John Findlay, professor and chair, UW History Dept.
- July 12 — American Veterans of World War II: A Special Generation? By Otis Pease, UW professor emeritus of history.
- July 26 — The War as a Diplomatic Revolution for the United States, by Wilton Fowler, UW professor emeritus of history.”
